I Can See You

Jun 30, 2022

There is a game show on TV called “I Can See Your Voice”. The contestant is faced with six good singers and six bad singers. The goal is to pick two singers each round, and eliminate the bad singer based on each singer’s appearance and the stated occupation. The singers only lip sync to songs, and do not use their real voice to sing until they are eliminated by the contestant. The contestant uses clues and opinions from several celebrities to decide if the singer can actually sing or not. Each round that is guessed correctly, the contestant wins money. The usual scene is that, the contestant makes up his/her mind, then the eliminated singer sings. When the guess is right, the audience cheers, the contestant appears ecstatic, and oftentimes jumps with joy. If the guess is wrong, the unified reaction of disappointment flooded the studio.

That got me thinking. Are we hiding behind our occupation, waiting for people to find out who we really are?

How many times have you been asked, “Who are you?”

In the past, my usual default answer was, “I am a doctor.”

That is not all I am. I am also a wife, a mother, a daughter, a life coach, a beach goer and a dessert fanatic.

“But who really are you? Those are mostly facts. What do you think about you?” My coach asked me one day.

At that point, I realized that I was hiding behind the above identities or labels without really going deeper to examine who I am as a person, what my values are, what my priorities are.

Wow, I am like the contestant on “I Can See Your Voice”, having to gather all the clues I can gather to determine who the singer (aka me) really is. When I dig deeper in my brain, I get a glimpse of how I see myself. The glimpse will get to be a longer screenshot if I pause enough to find myself in the sea of thoughts.

I am a person who loves to spend time with my family. I am helpful. I am practicing gratitude every day. I can do hard things.

So that is who I am. I, as the contestant of my own show of life, am very excited to unveil who I truly am.

How do I feel about me? I love you unconditionally. When you fall, I will pick you up.

When we love ourselves unconditionally, our circumstances do not affect how we feel about ourselves. Amazing things can happen. I always talk about our fuel source. The positive energy of unconditional self-love transforms to more loving and more giving to others. We get to love others better. We get to lift other people up better. We get to explore more in life.

Who are you? Are you hiding behind your titles? Or are you sharing with the world who you really are, how you really feel, and what to expect from you? I hope you, as your own show’s contestant, will be excited to find out who you are, and embrace you as you.

Are you ready to stop feeling stressed and overwhelmed? Are you ready to have more time to do what you want?
