Act of Generosity
May 02, 2022I remember when it was the start of Advent in 2021. The Sunday Service at church included the lighting of the first Advent candle and the Pastor’s message about giving and receiving. It was much more rewarding to give than to receive. Toward the end of the service, each of us was given an envelope. Each enveloped contained cash anywhere between $5 and $500. We were instructed to open the envelope after the service. We were to use that gift to give to others anyway we wish. We could also add to the amount given to make a bigger gifting sum.
I thought our church was setting a great example of giving rather than receiving. In the holiday season, I was fortunate that I didn’t have to worry about if I could put food on the table or if I could afford warm clothes for my kids. There were many out there without a warm place to stay, without a full meal to eat, and without family around them. I am blessed in this life.
I opened my envelope. There was $5. I was thankful that I had a gift of $5 to spread more kindness. Oh, the potential things I could do. I was planning to add more money to the gift and show my appreciation to my staff at work. There were many instances that were hectic, that were unexpected, and the staff members handled all kinds of situations well. Even though it was expected of them, I greatly appreciated their responsibility and their work ethic. Maybe I would set up pop-up surprise appreciation luncheons.
I think there is always some ways to give or gift, however small or big. Giving reminds me to be thankful all the time, especially when I take things for granted. Giving and thankfulness go hand in hand. I believe giving is contagious too. I hope that by giving and sharing, more people will do the same.
Are you ready to stop feeling stressed and overwhelmed? Are you ready to have more time to do what you want?
